The Naqshabandi Tariqah Unveiled
The Naqshabandi Tariqah Unveiled
Author: Al-Hidaayah, Colombo Sri Lanka
Verily all Praise is for Allah, we praise Him, seek His aid and ask for His forgiveness. We seek refuge in Allah from the evil of ourselves and the evil of our actions. Whomsoever Allah guides then there is none who can misguide him, and whomsoever Allah misguides then there is none who can guide him. I bear witness that none has the right to be worshipped except Allah alone, having no partners and I bear witness that Muhammad (sallAllahu `alaihi wa sallam) is His slave and Messenger. May the peace and blessings of Allah be on the final Prophet Muhammad (sallAllahu `alaihi wa sallam), his family, his companions and all those who follow in their footsteps until the last day. To proceed:
This article is a modest attempt to analyse and expose the teachings and practices of the Tariqat ul Naqshbandi in the light of the Glorious Qur’an and Sunnah, and is done purely in fulfilling our obligation to enjoin the right and forbid the evil. Over the years many deviant movements have arisen in the Muslim world bent on corrupting the teachings of Islaam and thereby mislead the Muslims. One of the most dangerous of the contemporary movements is the group known as the Naqshbandi Tariqat.
Like most deviant groups, they claim that the Muslim masses are ignorant and are therefore in need of a Sheikh (leader) who is supposed to possess the secret knowledge of the unseen. They also claim that all religious texts have an obvious outer meaning known to the masses and a hidden meaning known only to the Sheikh, and that the masses are unable to contact Allah on their own and hence are in need of an intermediary (Sheikh) who will get them close to Allah if given unquestionable and unconditional obedience.
The greatest danger of this group lies in the fact that they, while wearing the cloak of Islam, are striving to destroy it from within, in a vain attempt to extinguish the light of Islam and divert the Muslims from the reality of the religion.
Realizing the grave threat posed by this group, we have undertaken the task of exposing the falsity of this group, seeking only the pleasure of Allah (subhaanahu wa ta`aalaa), we hope that the absurdities, fallacies, and the extremely deviant nature of this group would be clearly exposed to those trapped in its clutches and as a timely warning to those contemplating to join them.
The simple method we have adopted in exposing the group’s deviant beliefs is to quote what Allah (subhaanahu wa ta`aalaa) says in the Qur’an and what His truthful Messenger Muhammad (sallAllahu `alaihi wa sallam) has said in the authentic Ahadith, and then to quote the group’s beliefs or position vis-a-vis the same issue, taken from their own publications printed by ‘Arafat Publishing House’, and where necessary commented upon.
In all firmness to this group we have given the names of the books, along with the page number from where we have taken these quotes. Reference to the Qur’anic Aayaat and authentic Ahadith too have been provided.
Due to lack of space we are compelled to deal with only some of the serious issues of the group’s beliefs and teachings which are directly in conflict with the pure Islamic teachings as revealed in the Glorious Qur’an and authentic Sunnah.
This article is by no means a complete exposition of the entirety of this group’s deviant beliefs and teachings and all Qur’anic Aayaat quoted are only translations of the meanings of the Qur’an.
We pray that this article serves to remove the confusion and ignorance that the people are suffering from regarding this important issue and that it will save all those sincere seekers of truth from falling in to Shirk.
1. THE ISLAMIC BELIEF: Allah is the Only Truth
Allah (subhaanahu wa ta`aalaa) says in the Qur’an -
“That is because Allah – He is the Truth and it is He who gives life to dead.” (Qur’an, Chapter 22, Verse 6)
THE NAQSHBANDI BELIEF: Aba Yazid al-Bistami is the Truth
On page 15 of the book ‘The Naqshbandi Way’ it reads -
“Whoever recites this Ayah even a single time will attain a high rank and a great position, … he will get what the Prophets and saints could not get, and will arrive at the stage of Aba Yazid al-Bistami, the Imam of the order who said: ”I am the Truth (al-Haqq).“
The above statement ‘I am the Truth’ – is a clear example of Shirk (association) in the aspect of the Names and Attributes of Allah, since Al-Haqq in the definite form, is one of Allah’s unique attributes and is not shared by any created being or thing unless preceded by the prefix `Abd meaning “Slave of” or “Servant of“. (In fact the Mystic al-Hallaaj was publicly executed as an apostate for daring to openly claim divinity in his infamous pronouncement “Anal-Haqq“- I am the Truth.) Read more…

Mufti Muhammad ibn Adam al-Kawtharee states:
“I can’t of course reach the level of Imaam [Muhammad] Zaahid al-Kawtharee, but by using his name, Allaah might say on the day of Qiyaamah: ‘Hold on to him and enter Jannah”
And this Zaahid al-Kawtharee is renowned innovator and the one who curses the great Imaams such as Ibn Taymiyyah, Ibnul-Qayyim and Ash-Shawkaanee.
Mufti Muhammad ibn Adam al-Kawtharee also delivers fatawa calling to istighaathah (seeking rescue) and isti’aanah (seeking assistance) from the dead in their graves. And this is well documented on the Soofee websites.

BIOGRAPHY
SHEIKH IMRAN N. HOSEIN
Sheikh Imran Nazar Hosein was a former diplomat of Trinidad and Tobago. He is presently the Imam of Masjid Dar al-Qur’an in Long Island, New York. He studied Islam under the guidance of the outstanding Islamic Scholar and Sufi Sheikh, Maulana Dr. Muhammad Fadlur Rahman Ansari, at the Institute of Islamic Studies in Pakistan. He also studied philosophy at the University of Karachi and International Relations at the University of West Indies and the Graduate Institute of International Studies in Geneva, Switzerland. His published works include, among others, The Religion of Abraham and the State of Israel, The Prohibition of Riba in the Qur’an and Sunnah, The Caliphate, the Hejaz and the Saudi Wahhabi Nation-State.”
Our noble Salafi brother (reliable in his narrating), Abdur-Rahmaan Al-Fransee, who lives in Malaysia states:
“The Imran N Hosein who came to Malaysia and delivered lectures with Bilal Philips in July 2001 is the Soofee now living in New York, born in Trinidad, author of the books ‘One Jama’at One Ameer’ and ‘The Saudi-Wahabi Nation State’… It is not the first time he came to Malaysia. I am 100% sure that the Imran N Hosein who came is the Soofee guy. How is that ? Coz he also went to Singapore (nearby Malaysia) and a Salafi brother over there mentioned that this Soofee came again to Singapore. I myself went several times to Singapore, a city of Tassawuf and grave-worship, and his books are easily found in the ‘Islamic’ bookshops. Another Singaporean Salafi brother – who was in Malaysia in July 2001 and has spent 7 months in the camp of Sh. Muqbil – also indicated to me that this guy was the Soofee one. Also on the posters for the Malaysian tour, it was indicated that he was from New York. Finally, his photo on the posters matched the photo on the back cover of his book ‘One Jama’at One Ameer’ (I have this book at home).”

Imran Hosein states: “The Sufi methodology recognizes insight, recognizes the capacity to see with nur (light) and therefore provide a new explanation. That’s a Sufi methodology, and I got that from my teacher who was a Sufi sheikh.” (video: 2012 Imran Hosein - Sufi, Salafi and the End of Time)
He also states, “..that is tasawwuf, and that is the highest stage of religion. Personally I wish the word Sufism had never been invented by life would have been easier.” (video: 2012 Imran Hosein - Sufi, Salafi and the End of Time)
Imran states: “The Sufi methodology recognizes insight, recognizes the capacity to see with nur (light) and therefore provide a new explanation. That’s a Sufi methodology, and I got that from my teacher who was a Sufi sheikh.” (video: 2012 Imran Hosein - Sufi, Salafi and the End of Time)
He said: “We say to the Salafi, and we’ve been saying it for all this time, all these months in our lectures that no brother you’re wrong. There are verses from the Quran that could not be understood. Not by the Aslaaf. An Nabi Muhammad alaihe salaam did not provide the explanation, and today we are the ones that have to use knowledge and insight to recognize what Allah is saying. And when we provide that interpretation of the Quran notice my brother salafi that the overwhelming majority of people are accepting our interpretation as correct.” (video: 2012 Imran Hosein - Sufi, Salafi and the End of Time)
He said: “Al-Ihsan is to worship Allah, and to serve Allah as though you’re seeing Him with the eye of your heart. (Quotes the sentence in Arabic) if you have not reached that stage as of yet were you can see with the internal eye and worship Him, then at least this, you should recognize that He is seeing you. And so the heart can see, but the heart can only see when there is faith, and the heart can see only when there is nur in the heart. (video: 2012 Imran Hosein - Sufi, Salafi and the End of Time)
Did al-Ghazali Come Back to the Manhaj of the Salaf? – Shaykh Al-Albaani [Video|Ar-En Subtitles]
Did Abu Haamid al-Ghazali Come Back to the Manhaj of the Salaf?

Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah (may Allaah have mercy on him) said:
“If we assume that someone narrated the view of the salaf but what he narrated is far removed from what the view of the salaf actually is, then he has little knowledge of the view of the salaf, such as Abu’l-Ma’aali, Abu Haamid al-Ghazzaali, Ibn al-Khateeb and the like, who did not have enough knowledge of hadeeth to qualify them as ordinary scholars of hadeeth, let alone as prominent scholars in that field. For none of these people had any knowledge of al-Bukhaari and Muslim and their ahaadeeth, apart from what they heard, which is similar to the situation of the ordinary Muslim, who cannot distinguish between a hadeeth which is regarded as saheeh and mutawaatir according to the scholars of hadeeth, and a hadeeth which is fabricated and false. Their books bear witness to that, for they contain strange things and most of these scholars of ‘ilm al-kalaam and Sufis who have drifted away from the path of the salaf admit that, either at the time of death or before death. There are many such well-known stories. This Abu Haamid al-Ghazzaali, despite his brilliance, his devotion to Allaah, his knowledge of kalaam and philosophy, his asceticism and spiritual practices and his Sufism, ended up in a state of confusion and resorted to the path of those who claim to find out things through dreams and spiritual methods. Shaikh Muhammad Amaan al-Jaami describing the leaders of the Sufi paths - [Video|Ar-En]

Shaikh Muhammad Amaan al-Jaami rahimahullah:
"And due to that, I do not know of (something) more harmful upon the Islamic society in their creed than the Mashaayikh of the (soofee) paths; because the Mashaayikh of the (soofee) paths corrupt the creed of the society and they affirm attributes for the creation that cannot be affirmed except for Allaah; Knowledge that encompasses the knowledge of all things; hearing that encompasses all things that can be heard (or not heard by humans); ability, having an effect and controlling the affairs.
Are All The Groups Present Today Apart of The 72 Destroyed Sects?
The noble Shaykh al-Allaamah Rabee ibn Haadi al-Madkhalee (may Allaah preserve him) was asked:
Q. May Allaah bestow good upon you. Do all of the groups present in this day enter into the Hadeeth of the seventy two destroyed sects? Is the group the Muslim Brotherhood and the Tableeghis along with them (the seventy two destroyed sects)?
A. Whoever is not upon that which the Messenger (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) and His Companions (may Allaah be pleased with them all) were upon, in his Aqeedah, his Manhaj and in his Da’wah then he is from the misguided sects. The Muslim Brotherhood unites between the different sects. Therefore, they have opened their doors wide open for the Rawaa-fid, the Khawaa-rij, the Zaydiyyah and the Mu’tazilah. Rather they have opened up their doors for the Christians. They are ones who consist of the different misguided groups together. We don’t name them a misguided group, rather they consist of the different (misguided) groups.
Likewise the case of the Tableeghis is near to them. They give the pledge of allegiance upon paths of Soofiyyah. They have opened the doors for anybody. There’s no doubt that they are from the misguided groups. Indeed Shaykh Ibn Baaz (may Allaah have mercy upon him) was asked about them and he said: -They are from the other groups. They are not from Ahlis-Sunnah wal-Jamaa’ah-.
Therefore Ahlus-Sunnah wal-Jamaa’ah are they ones who are upon what the Messenger (salallaahu alayhi wa sallam) and His Companions (may Allaah be pleased with them all) were upon. This is the scale (by which we judge) the Muslim Brotherhood and other than them. Are they upon what the Messenger (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) and His Companions (may Allaah be pleased with them all) were upon in their creed, Manhaj, Da’wah, alliance and disassociation? Or do they have for themselves other methodologies? The answer: They have for themselves other methodologies that differ completely from that which the Messenger (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) and His Companions (may Allaah be pleased with them all) were upon in His Aqeedah, Manhaj, alliance and disassociation.”
